Eureka! Mersey to "help power our region out of the coronavirus crisis"

The Liverpool Echo has published a list of nine projects which it says will “help power our region out of the coronavirus crisis”.

As the article states, “The Liverpool City Region, like so many places around the country, has been hit badly by the coronavirus crisis. The impact on the people of the city has been huge – but for region’s like ours this is a major economic issue as well as a health one.”

Focusing on £180m of investments made by the office of Metro Mayor Steve Rotherham, the pice highlights nine of those investments that they say are “more important than ever as we look to come out of the crisis”.

The nine projects mentioned:

  • Eureka! Mersey project to create a world-class visitor attraction
  • Investment in Ultrafast Digital Connectivity
  • A 600km city-region wide Cycling and Walking network
  • Shakespeare North Playhouse
  • Investment in Advanced Manufacturing, via a £15m funding package for world-leading research and technology organisation the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC)
  • Runcorn Station Quarter
  • Moss Nook, St Helens
  • Adult Education and Skills through the Skills Capital Fund, which has distributed £16 million in the last year alone, including £2m for Southport College to create a ‘Construction Skills Centre.’
  • New Trains for the Merseyrail Network
